R²D² is an Innovation Action project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, aimed at improving the resilience and reliability of current Electrical Power and Energy Systems (EPES) against a growing number of threats and vulnerabilities that may affect such critical infrastructure. R²D² prevents and mitigates technical, cyber and physical risks that may expose weaknesses in the electric infrastructures with harmful and damaging effects on different stakeholders and final customers.

Serbia
The Serbian pilot site is executed on physical power infrastructures (both IT and OT) across Serbia. Most of the demonstrations at the Serbian pilot will be held at the National Control Center in Belgrade operated by EMS and the SCC control centre, which is in the same location in Belgrade. In addition, some of the demonstrations may use the high voltage infrastructure and IT systems of other transmission facilities, such as HHV and HV lines and primary substations.
Slovenia
The Slovenian pilot site is executed on several secondary transformer stations of Elektro Ljubljana (ELEK) distribution system, with their MV and LV networks distributed through the system including EL OVE owned powerplants. Transformer stations are selected based on problems with congestions and are not concentrated to area.
Greece
Demonstration activities on the Greek Pilot Site are in the city of Xanthi, which is the capital of Xanthi prefecture, located in the northern part of Greece. The population of the whole prefecture is 111,222 people, from whom 63,083 live in Xanthi city (according to 2011 inventory). This number corresponds to 64,300 MV & LV consumers with total annual consumption of 448,000 MWh in 2020. In general, the area experiences harsh winters and extreme weather events, mainly including snowfall and heavy rainstorms.
Spain
The Spanish pilot includes some distribution system’s infrastructures located at northern Spain. The pilot site is operated by EDP Redes España and its main peculiarity is the possibility to observe the impact of R2D2 solutions in distribution systems across rural and urban areas as the selected assets are located between Cantabria and Asturias regions.
Partners within bridge initiative

BRIDGE is a European Commission initiative which unites Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe Smart Grid, Energy Storage, Islands, and Digitalisation Projects to create a structured view of cross-cutting issues which are encountered in the demonstration projects and may constitute an obstacle to innovation.
The BRIDGE process fosters continuous knowledge sharing amongst projects thus allowing them to deliver conclusions and recommendations about the future exploitation of the project results, with a single voice. R²D² will collaborate with this initiative though different Working Groups representing main areas of interest of the European Commission: Data management, Business model, Regulations and Consumer and Citizen engagement.
